From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
